MPM Volunteer Placement Description for Date Specific Opportunities

PURPOSE
- Assist the general public attending the Events with the best customer service.
RESPONSIBILITIES (varies by event)
- Duties may include (but are not limited to): welcoming visitors and helping with registration, assisting children with activities and/or crafts, being responsible to move small groups from one station to another, preparing/handing-out snacks, pouring beverages, etc.
- Know and follow MPM policies as outlined in Volunteer Handbook.
- Calendar yourself and record hours on the Volgistics internet calendar for Overnight tasks, Scout Workshops, Ticket Collectors for lectures, Craft/activity Assistants, and Gala Tasks. The current events are listed in the scroll-down list in Volgistics and at www.mpm.edu click on VOLUNTEER .
- For 100-volunteer-per-night events like Halloween Hauntings and Food ‘n’ Froth, email your interest to volunteeroffice@mpm.edu 4 months ahead (it’s first email by date); use Volgistics to record your hours. Corporate volunteers are scheduled through MPM’s Volunteer Coordinator and do not use Volgistics.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a registered MPM volunteer who can deliver the best customer service with a smile.
- Corporate volunteers must have a corporate staff person in communication with the MPM Volunteer Coordinator and coordinating the corporations needs on their end.
- Ability to interact with the general public (all ages). Assist with their needs.
- Ability to follow through on verbal and written instructions from the event coordinator.
- Ability to communicate with and work with other volunteers.
- Have the physical, cognitive and emotional skills to interact cheerfully with the public, be able to stand/walk quickly and work with minimal breaks.
- Strong sense of accountability to MPM and its guests to deliver the best customer service!
HOURS and AVAILABILITY / MINIMUM COMMITMENT REQUIRED
- Work the entire shift you sign-up for. Some events have multiple dates. Specific dates are listed on the MPM website’s volunteer page and the assignment scrolldown list in Volgistics. Events are:
- Monthly Overnights – Friday nights, 6 pm-10:30 pm or Saturday breakfasts, 6 am-9 am
- Scout Workshops – six Saturdays, 9 am-12 pm
- Archeology Fair – one Friday and Saturday
- Gala – one Saturday in October, set up am or pm, work late evening of event
- Halloween Hauntings – one Thursday and Friday in October, 4:00 pm - 9 pm
- Food & Froth (must be 21) – one Saturday in February, 5 pm -10 pm
- MPM volunteers self-schedule and record hours on Volgistics. Corporate volunteers schedule through their corporate coordinator.
TRAINING/DRESS CODE/SUPPORT
- TRAINING done by the Event coordinator the first hour of the event.
- DRESS CODE: (varies) Business Casual. Costumes optional for Halloween. Comfortable shoes.
- CONTACT PERSON: Volunteer Coordinator will conduct be your primary contact for this position.

- Volunteers honor their commitment and become proficient in using Volgistics to schedule shifts and record hours.
