MPM Position Description for Nickelodeon Volunteer Silent-Film Operator
PURPOSE: Welcome visitors to the Pastimes Theatre, a turn-of-the-century Nickelodeon.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to engage the general public and speak to groups of 2-10 explaining the cinema culture of the early 1900's in America, adapting information to the age level of the audience. Ability to climb four steps to reach and operate the projector/DVD player. Must be 18 and able to work alone.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Pick up the Nickelodeon key with your Volunteer ID badge. Unlock doors, adjust auditorium lights, play DVD's on equipment provided. Happily welcome guests and inform them about movies being shown. Respond to questions about the Nickelodeon theater. Study information on cinema history provided in the volunteer binder (kept in the Nickelodeon). Estimate a count of visitors on a form provided. Turn off equipment, fan and lights, and lock doors when leaving. Return Nick key to security desk after closing and report any maintenance problems. Record your hours of service and schedule yourself for future shifts in the volunteer lounge.
HOURS and AVAILABILITY / MINIMUM COMMITMENT REQUIRED: 4 hours per session with a minimum of 12 sessions per year. This is a seven-day per week opportunity. Notify the Volunteer Coordinator if absent for a scheduled shift.
TRAINING: The Nickelodeon Chairperson will provide Training. The equipment for showing VHS and DVD's is similar to home equipment; directions are written up in a folder in the Nick and will be demonstrated as part of the training. You will shadow an established volunteer for as many sessions as you need until you are confident to go solo.
SUPPORT: Communication and support provided by the Nickelodeon Chairperson.

CONTACT PERSON: Volunteer Coordinator will conduct interview & orientation of MPM. Position Coordinator will train you, help with the calendar process, communicate with you regularly, and be your primary contact for this position.
