Connecting our researchers directly with students is one of our educational goals. Participate in any Passport Distance Learning Series program to qualify for a free "Chat with a Museum Expert" session. Chat sessions are offered the last Thursday of the month. Join Museum archeologist Carter Lupton and a Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary marine archeologist for an interactive chat regarding land archeology vs. underwater archeology and discover amazing sites that takes us back to Ancient Egypt.
November 17, 2011 – “Artifacts on the Go!”
Join Museum Registrar Claudia Jacobson for an interactive chat and tour regarding how museum artifacts are tracked and utilized outside the museum.
January 26, 2012 – “From the President’s Office”
Join Museum President and CEO, Jay Williams, in his office for an interactive chat regarding his job at the Museum and why he feels his job is the best job in the whole world! Discover his favorite exhibit and what it is like to spend the night at the Milwaukee Public Museum.
February 23, 2012 - Museum stories: Fact or Fiction
Every artifact in a Museum has a story. Some even come to the Museum with one. How do curators know the real story? Join MPM curator Al Muchka to explore some of “The Streets of Old Milwaukee” artifacts and their stories. Are they fact or fiction? Just…what will you find?
March 29, 2012 - “Setting the Scene”
Meet Museum artists for a chat, and tour of their workshop. Discover their role in the making of a Museum exhibit from dinosaurs to shrunken heads. You will be amazed, inspired and wowed during this interactive session.
April 26, 2012 - “MPM goes Green!”
The Milwaukee Public Museum is going “Green.” Join Dr. Ellen Censky, Chair of the Green Committee and Director of Facilities and Operations, Larry Banister, for an interactive chat about what it means to “go green” and how it helps the museum. Then discover what a green roof can do for Milwaukee and you!
May 17, 2012 - “Calling all Collectors”
Almost everyone collects something and, over time, many personal collections end up in museums. Join the Milwaukee Public Museum anthropology curator, Dawn Scher Thomae, in this interactive session to explore the connections and differences between personal collecting and collecting in museums. Through interactive discussion, stories and challenges discover why museums collect and how they get the items you see on exhibit, find out why humans (and animals collect) and see some of the new collections at the museum. Every item and collection in the museum has its own story. What will you find?
June 1, 2012 - “Digging Wisconsin”
Summer is a great time to explore Wisconsin and not just what is on the surface. Join our geologist to explore Wisconsin geology from 500 million year old fossils to following the trail of continental glaciers. We will look at what makes Wisconsin geology special and where you can go to observe our unique past all summer long!

In this interactive session, offered on the third Friday of every month, participants see museum exhibits come alive through the art of storytelling and hands-on activities. October, 2011: “Brawn, Brains and Beauty: Women Pharaoh’s of Egypt” Strategic military leaders, strong rulers, innovative engineers … and they were women. Discover Egypt’s Pharaohs who once were queens. In this interactive story compare and contrast these two amazing women as the secrets of their life as Pharaoh are revealed. Who were these women? Where did they come from? And how well did they lead their beloved Egypt?

Hear this salty rendition of “The Night before Christmas” and learn about the Museum’s famous holiday whale!
January 2012: “ A Boy Who Became King” Un-wrap the story of the most famous of all pharaohs, King Tut, as you explore a tomb filled with treasure, examine his remains through forensic science and unlock secrets in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs to discover the story of a boy who became king!
February 2012: “The Teddy Bear President” Discover which president inspired the name behind everyone’s favorite bear and learn about his dangerous connection with Milwaukee.
March 2012: "Motel of the Mysteries:" Step into the future and discover archeology through a comical story called “Motel of the Mysteries” as you excavate a motel room from the past.
April 2012: “Mammoth Tales” Discover the Museum’s newest permanent exhibit, the Hebior Mammoth, through story. Learn how to determine the difference between a mastodon and a mammoth as you step back in time, 12,000 years, to the ice age. Brrrr…
May 2012: “A 1927 Friendship” Discover the story of Kasumi Tskuba, Miss Ibaraki a 1927 friendship doll from Japan who came to America with 57 sister dolls in response to a gift from American children in 1926.
June 2012: “A Rainforest Adventure” Jump, climb and fly through the Tropical Humid Rainforest in this interactive story, told by a frog. Discover the strongest animal, messiest eater, laziest animal and plants that do not need soil!
July 2012: “A Dinosaur Adventure” Take a journey back in time as you search the museum high and low for dinosaurs! Become a part of the story as you explore and learn fun facts about when these fantastic creatures roamed the earth.
August 2012: “The Prince’s Bride” Hear and participate in a traditional Filipino children’s tale about a prince who seeks out a very unusual bride so that he may take over his father’s kingdom.
