Early Learning Experiences
Students ages 3 - 6 handle artifacts in the early-learning classroom, tour exhibit areas, and then return to the classroom for age appropriate learning activities.
- These 50-minute programs are available Tuesday-Friday at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm and 1:30pm
- Programs require a minimum of one adult teacher /chaperone (18+ years) for every five students.
- Programs require a minimum of 10 students per program; maximum 20. Please note: groups that exceed 20 children require multiple reservations.
Early Learning groups will meet their educator at the bottom of the Grand Staircase on the Ground floor.

- AMERICAN INDIANS
- Discover the Americas of yesterday and today with a visit to the Plains, North Woods, Southwest and Pacific Northwest and the people who first lived there.
- FLUTTER BY, BUTTERFLY
- Discover metamorphosis through the life cycle of a butterfly. Tour the Puelicher Butterfly Wing to see hundreds of tropical butterflies in action. Are butterfly wings waterproof? We will test your predictions and talk about migration.
WMELS: B.EL.2, B.EL.4, C.EL.1, C.EL.2 - INVESTIGATING INSECTS
- Explore the world of some of the oldest living creatures on Earth. Hold some of these live insects in the palm of your hand! We will discuss the habitats, physical characteristics, defense mechanisms and eating habits of some rare but familiar critters.
- OCEAN LIFE
- Come along as we explore the fascinating world of ocean animals. Learn how the water and plants change as we venture into the deep blue sea.
- POLAR ADVENTURE
- Chill out as we travel into the northern-most regions on Earth. See, listen and feel what life would be like for you living in the Arctic. From polar bears to caribou, we will learn about arctic adaptations.

- Trek through the tropical rain forest to discover the many unusual plants and animals that live in this exotic world. See how camouflage is so important to survival and how the rain forest comes alive at night!
WMELS: A.EL.1, A.EL.3, B.EL.2, C.EL.2 - SAVANNA SAFARIS
- View the animals and people who dwell across the large and diverse continent of Africa. Learn about different environments and how people and animals adapt. Feel elephant skin, play a finger piano and learn about mask making from the different regions.
WMELS: A.EL.1, B.EL.1, B.EL.4, C.EL.1 - STAR STORIES
- Learn about the solar system by exploring planet order and size relation. Groups will compare the planets and then venture through exhibits for cultural storytelling of constellations and the night sky.
WMELS: A.EL.2, B.EL.2, B.EL.2c, C.EL.3 - WALKING WITH THE DINOSAURS
- Stand eye-to-eye with the dinosaurs and handle bones and fossils as we learn about life over 65 million years ago. Pretend to be a Paleontologist and handle the tools used on adventurous digs. From the Torosaur to the T-rex, we will explore the wonderful world of dinosaurs.
WMELS: A.EL.1, B.EL.4, B.EL.5, C.EL.2 - WISCONSIN WOODLAND WONDERS
- Hike through the woods of Wisconsin as we search out our feathered and furry friends. We will travel to the Horicon Marsh and encounter beavers and bears along the way.
