DESTINATION DISCOVERY: Winter Camps at the Milwaukee Public Museum!

Nothing to do when you're off of school? Why not spend the day traveling the arctic, joining Dr. King on a Civil Rights march, or exploring the science of mummies! Campers will view exhibits, engage in hands-on activities and so much more!

Learn about the animals of the arctic and how they adapt to life in this cold land. Children will also explore the life of the Inuit people and see how they use natural resources in everyday life. Join us as we make projects, learn about polar bears, sled dogs and seals and hear stories about this wintery region. Parents or guardians are welcome to accompany their to children to Arctic Adventures camp.

Explore with us the extraordinary life and legacy of the famed civil rights leader in this unique one-day celebration of his mission of peace. Take a detailed tour of the Watson Family Home, a tribute to one of Milwaukee's first prominent African American families, and help design and prepare a peace mural for exhibition in the museum as we create emblems, images and poems expressing hope for a peaceful world.

School’s Out Camp on Presidents Day – Mummies!

9:30am-3:30pm, Monday, February 15, 2010
Ages 6-12
$50, $40 for members

Few objects in history have inspired as much awe and mystery as ancient Egyptian mummies. Join us as we unwrap the secrets of mummification, find out why it was so important in ancient Egypt, and become an attendant as you help adorn and wrap a model mummy. We’ll attend a showing of the IMAX feature, Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs and get up close and personal with Djed-Hor, one of the museum’s real mummies.
