Teacher Workshops

The following Teacher Workshops are scheduled at the museum during the 2009-2010 school year. MPM educators can also be scheduled to come to your facility for a training workshop. All workshops provide certificates of completion.

Early Childhood Educators: All trainings listed below are facilitated by an Approved Intermediate Trainer and would qualify as Tier 2 training for The Registry.

Project Learning Tree – Early Childhood

August 22, 2009, 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Foster a sense of wonder in young children through the Wisconsin Project Learning Tree Early Childhood Activity Guide and Music & Movement CD. Designed for all early childhood educators, these hands-on activities integrate nature exploration, music and movement, literature, assessment opportunities, art and a snack into over 25 learning experiences. Participants receive: PLT Early Childhood Activity Guide, Music & Movement CD plus posters and other educational supplements.

Project WILD / AQUATIC – K-12

September 19, 2009, 9:30 – 3:30 p.m.
A nationwide environmental education program consisting of activity guides and supplementary environmental education materials for K-12 classrooms, youth groups, home schools, and nature centers, Project WILD/AQUATIC encompasses over 165 hands-on environmental education activities. Easy to adapt for preschool ages. Participants receive: Project WILD K-12 Activity Guide (537 pages), Project WILD Aquatic Activity Guide (269 pages) and many other posters and supplements.
Cost: $45

Educators are raving about the Wisconsin Project Learning Tree (PLT), an award-winning environmental education program for PreK-8 formal and non-formal educators. Designed for all educators and naturalists, participants will receive six hours of instruction, ideas, hands-on activities and the PLT Activity Guide (over 400 pages).

Culture in the Classroom – PreK-8

November 21, 2009 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
This workshop will introduce educators to customs, arts and creative expressions from around the globe. The first half of training will focus on the importance of diversity and cultural awareness in the classroom followed by a hands-on creative opportunity to create classroom enhancements and activities. Walk away with a new outlook on beautiful cultural customs and traditions.

Teaching With Objects: A Multi-Sensory Approach – PreK-4

June 12, 2010, 9:30 a.m. – Noon
All objects tell a story. Participants will be encouraged to consider using objects and art to create themed explorations. By tapping community resources – such as objects in local museums and community centers, statues, public art, bridges, buildings, posters, prints and more, participants will learn how to bring the world of art and culture to young children in their communities using a multi-sensory approach.
Cost: $30

Traveling Workshops

These workshops can be booked to meet your scheduling needs. Minimum of 10, maximum of 40 teachers per workshop. Travel fee of $50 for workshops presented outside of Milwaukee County.
