Mummies: Unwinding the Myths

Spend your Saturday learning how mummies are made! Using a life-sized model, we'll follow the step-by-step process of mummifying the Egyptian pharaoh, Hatshepsut, one of only a handful of women to rule ancient Egypt. You'll see the good, the bad and the ugly of mummification including organ removal, use of canopic jars and the procedure for wrapping, adorning, and entombing the pharaohs and other royalty of ancient Egypt. Finally, we’ll wrap up the program with Djed-Hor, one of the Museum’s authentic ancient Egyptian mummies. A question and answer segment follows each program. The program is offered in the Museum's Gromme Theater.
Mummies Themed Overnights
During MPM's exciting sleepovers, you'll explore the Museum under the cover of darkness. Guide your group through exhibit on a flashlight tour, experience and IMAX film or Planetarium show in our six-story dome theater, and finally "bed-down" in select exhibit areas. And during our special Mummies themed overnights, the fun doesn't stop there! All overnight participants receive admission to Mummies of the World on Saturday morning immediately following the sleepover.
