Apollo 11 Stargazing in the Daniel M. Soref Planetarium - Throughout July

Experience the historic Moonwalk with the Planetarium's short film, A 50th Anniversary Tribute to Apollo 11. After exploring the Moon, it's time for stargazing under a clear Wisconsin night sky! This live tour will show you where to look for planets, constellations, and many more heavenly sights. Times vary; one Planetarium program is included in MPM admission.

Lunar Film Festival

Celebrate NASA’s greatest accomplishments at MPM’s Lunar Film Festival! $4 members* and children 0-3; $6 non-members.

July 18 
6:30 p.m. | Apollo 11 Stargazing (special Planetarium program)
7:00 p.m. | Hidden Figures (2016) PG - Three  African-American women at NASA serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit -- a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world.


July 19 
6:30 p.m. | Apollo 11 Stargazing (special Planetarium program)
7:00 p.m. | Apollo 13 (1995) PG - At first, it seemed the perfect mission -- too perfect, even, to make headlines. After three days in space, three Apollo astronauts, Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), Fred Haise (Bill Paxton), and Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon), were finally approaching a long-cherished destination. Apollo 13 was going to the Moon.


July 20 
6:30 p.m. | Apollo 11 Stargazing (special Planetarium program)
7:00 p.m. | First Man (2018) PG-13 -  Oscar®-winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for the riveting story behind the first manned mission to the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the decade leading to the historic Apollo 11 flight. A visceral and intimate account told from Armstrong's perspective, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the film explores the triumphs and the cost of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

4:30 p.m. | WALL-E  (2008) G - A robot embarks on his greatest adventure ever around the galaxy.

Moon Day - Saturday, July 20, 2019

Join us from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for FREE out-and-indoor demonstrations and activities for all ages!*

  • Look to the skies using professional telescopes outside
  • Launch your own balloon rocket in MPM’s courtyard
  • Make a paper rocket with Milwaukee Public Television
  • Talk to our experts about this momentous event and see objects rarely displayed at MPM before, including:  
    • NASA artifacts like parts from the Apollo 8 navigation system that allowed astronauts to be brought safely to the moon and back to earth for the first time
    • Apollo 11 photos, including an autographed photo of all three astronauts signed after they were awarded the first-ever Père Marquette Discovery Award on November 8, 1969
    • The Milwaukee Journal from July 21, 1969 celebrating the landing
    • Apollo 8 and Apollo 11 coins

SPARK! - Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.

Join our Planetarium Director Bob Bonadurer for a special presentation about the Apollo 11 voyage and view unique NASA objects from our collections. If the weather permits, we may even launch a few rockets of our own!
