The Milwaukee Public Museum is committed to providing a safe environment where its patrons and employees are treated with respect and dignity.

Therefore, MPM prohibits unwelcome behavior or conduct of a verbal, written, or physical nature that interferes with the employee’s work environment, or a patron’s ability to make use of the Museum’s materials or service or creates an unsafe, intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment for an employee or Museum patron.

During the 1850s, Swiss lake levels hit a 200-year record low, which revealed the remains of prehistoric pile-dwelling settlements.

This discovery created a surge of interest in the Swiss Neolithic now known as, “Pfahlbaufieber” (“Pile Dwelling Fever”). Local residents, called “Pfahlbaufischer” (“pile-dwelling fishers”), sought to capitalize on the popularity of these new discoveries by “fishing” cultural remains out of the shallow waters from boats using long poles.

The Ancestors of the Oneida

The Oneida Tribe are members of the League of the Iroquois, a confederacy of the Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, and Mohawk based on mutual non-aggression. At a later date, the Tuscarora joined the Confederacy.
