As bugs begin to emerge with the start of spring, we’re highlighting what makes them an important part of so many ecosystems, and why we should celebrate—rather than be “creeped” out by—all the cool things they can do!

Explore the wonderful world of bugs with the following activities around the Museum, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Edible Insects

Did you know that at least 2 billion people around the world eat insects as part of their diet? Learn about this sustainable, responsible practice, and try some tasty insects for yourself!

Bug Patrol

Want to meet some of MPM’s live residents up close? Stop by and handle some of our favorite insects and arthropods!

Located in Bugs Alive! on the First Floor.

 
Life Up Close

Step into the lab and get to know the world of insects up close... Very close! Learn about what makes insects special and important while practicing using microscopes.

Located in Uihlein Hall on the Second Floor.

Heroes Around the Home

It's a bug's world, and we're just living in it. Learn about the bugs in and around your home, how they help us, and how you can become a community scientist in this choose-your-own-adventure-style engagement!

Located in the Puelicher Butterfly Wing Kids Zone on the First Floor.

 
Storytime Junebug: No Life Too Small

Take a break from exploring the Museum with the story Junebug: No Life Too Small by Nicole Daniels and Illustrated by Addy Rivera Sonda. June helps her friends see that all creatures have a right to be here, just like us, no matter how tiny they are. Storytimes start at 11:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. Recommended for ages 3-8.

Located in Rainforest on the First Floor.

Pollination Station

Buzz into spring and explore the world of pollinators. Learn about their contributions to our ecosystem and how small changes in a garden can help them thrive.

Located near the Broadleaf Forest on the Second Floor.

Ancient Creepy-Crawlies Tour

Discover the creepy-crawlies that lived millions of years ago on this 30-minute tour through the Third Planet.

Tours meet at the top of the Grand Staircase in Sense of Wonder on the First Floor. Tours leave at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. No cost or registration required.
