Chris Del Re and her grant-hired project assistants have been fully engaged in cleaning MPM’s historically significant typewriter collection for most of 2012.

Collection Support

The Milwaukee Public Museum holds more than 4 million objects in its permanent collections, making it an invaluable resource for research happening both within and outside the Museum.

MPM's collections support team is in charge of making sure that all items in the MPM collection, new and old, are properly catalogued, stored, and conserved in order to ensure that they will be available for research, and in some cases exhibition, for generations to come.

The latest: The building's 670 exterior concrete panels have been installed. Crews are now installing the glass for the windows and beginning interior work.

Northwood Cameo Plaque

Dating to 1895 and depicting "Venus instructing Cupid," the Northwood Cameo Plaque is unique. Although George Woodall is considered the greatest carver of English cameo glass, John Northwood was one of the first to carve this type of glass and is known to have made only seven works on cameo glass. He sparked a period of Greco-Roman recreations on glass and revitalized British interest in Greco-Roman glass works.
