On October 16 and 24, 2025, MPM Educators will let you be a paleontologist for the day as we highlight available school programming with hands-on learning, plenty of fossils, and even more fun. Programming is open to all visitors, not just school groups.
The Old Copper Complex, also known as the Old Copper Culture, refers to the items made by early inhabitants of the Great Lakes region during a period that spans several thousand years and covers several thousand square miles. The most conclusive evidence suggests that native copper was utilized to produce a wide variety of tools beginning in the Middle Archaic period circa 4,000 BC. The vast majority of this evidence comes from dense concentrations of Old Copper finds in eastern Wisconsin.
Join us as we highlight some of the amazing women in science right here at MPM. It is our hope that you will feel inspired to participate in science through many of the provided activities.
To know about a past for which there are no written records, physical remains must be studied in an orderly way. As with any science, this field is continually changing as new discoveries are made and new ideas are developed. The following is a brief discussion on Wisconsin archaeology, generally representing the views of archaeologists and anthropologists.
