Volunteers are an integral part of MPM.
Our volunteers engage with visitors and school groups, support staff behind the scenes, and help our important special events run smoothly.
On the Floors
MPM volunteers are often found delighting visitors on the floors of the Museum. In the past year, volunteers have spent more than 4,000 hours talking with nearly 68,000 visitors. From answering questions at the Ask Me Desk to handling insects in Bug Patrol, volunteers can choose from more than 20 engaging activities that align with their interests. These volunteers have a flexible schedule-opportunities are available whenever the Museum is open.
Docents are specialized volunteers that provide school and public tours to our visitors. This role requires a multi-year time commitment to training and research. You'll become an expert in one of our galleries and earn the right to wear the coveted "Blue Jacket."
Behind the Scenes
The behind-the-scenes volunteers work with curators and collections managers to research, categorize, and maintain our important collections.
Fundraising and Events
Many of MPM’s exciting events could not be held without the support of hundreds of volunteers to keep things organized, guests oriented, and the party going! Here’s a look at some of our special events that would not be possible without volunteers:
- Food & Froth
- Mystery at MPM
- Summer Connections
- Annual Gala
- Halloween Hauntings
- …And more!
