MPM on the Move

MPM is excited to bring our unique programming into the community, with in-person opportunities as well as new virtual options!

New audiences will experience traveling Museum programming that inspires curiosity and excites minds! All of our programs include hands-on learning opportunities led by our experienced and talented Educators. 

MPM on the Move has something for everyone and can be adapted for different age groups.


SPECIAL SESSION: LEARN WITH AN EXPERT

Do you ever wonder what a world might look like outside of our own solar system? Join us for a FREE virtual program with Melinda Soares-Furtado, NASA Hubble Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She'll help us dive deep into exoplanetology, the search for worlds outside our solar system. Don’t forget to ask questions via the chat! Best suited for grades 1-5.

Program Formats

We have recently expanded our offerings to include virtual options! Please note that not all program topics can be adapted for a virtual format; see below for details in individual program descriptions.

Due to the interactive nature of our programs, each format can accommodate up to 30 participants per session. 

 
In-Person Outreach*

A Museum Educator will travel to your location to deliver hands-on programming.

Program Duration: 50-60 minutes, but may be adjusted to accommodate a client’s schedule
Audience/Locations: Libraries, community groups/organizations, day programs, residential facilities, and schools
Cost**: $150 for the first program, $75 for each additional program on the same day (up to four) 
Policies: Our outreach mask policy mirrors the one onsite at MPM: Masks are welcome, but not required.

 
Virtual Outreach

A Museum Educator will host live, interactive programming using video meeting software. If applicable to the program, you may choose to include a hands-on kit for use during the virtual experience.

Program Duration: 50-60 minutes, but may be adjusted to accommodate a client’s schedule
Audience/Locations: Libraries, community groups/organizations, day programs, residential facilities, and schools
Cost (kits provided): $125 per program
Cost (no kits provided): $100 per program
 

*Please note that in-person programming may be limited in accordance with the most current public health guidelines.
**Travel costs may apply for in-person programming outside a 50-mile radius from MPM.

Butterflies may be beautiful, but that’s not why they’re important! Learn about the residents of MPM’s Butterfly Vivarium while we get up close and personal with these fascinating animals.

Discover how Wisconsin’s landscape has evolved through time and what geology can tell us about our state’s past. Participants will get a chance to examine real fossils and use them to determine how Wisconsin’s geography has changed over millions of years.

Explore the mysteries of mummies as we learn how and why Ancient Egyptians mummified their dead. Participants will get a chance to help in the mummification process of a life-size model.

Enter the mind of an archaeologist! Learn what clues scientists use when analyzing artifacts and what found objects can tell us about a culture.

Join MPM as we investigate our corner of space and beyond! Learn how our understanding of the universe has changed through the years. Participants will get a chance to model the movement of celestial bodies and build their own scale model of the solar system.

Join us on a trip back in time to the Mesozoic Era, where we’ll learn all about dinosaurs and the scientists who study them!
