Sport: Ship Dog of the Great Lakes is a tale about a stray puppy, rescued from the Milwaukee River during a storm, who joined the crew of the Hyacinth and helped bring supplies to lighthouses. He looked out for his crewmates on the ship and made friends all around the lake.
A MPM educator and photographer spent a month aboard the ship with Sport in 1926! The author and illustrator met with MPM's current Curator of History Collections Albert Muchka, who has researched the Hyacinth and its crew extensively, for access to MPM's materials and to ensure the accuracy of this book.
